Since being licensed as a Retail Electric Provider by the Public Utilities Commission in early 2005, privately held Stream Energy has grown rapidly into one of the largest participants in the Texas deregulated electricity market.

In early 2008, Stream Energy expanded its operations into Georgia where the company provides natural gas for customers. Stream Energy is the first Texas REP to expand to another state—another example of the successes of the Texas deregulated market.

Stream Energy's success is attributable to a full-service approach to customer relationships, supported by a customer-advantageous pricing model and the company's network marketing subsidiary, Ignite.

Through Ignite's marketing plan, individuals serving as Independent Associates market Stream Energy's products to friends and family members. This approach has resulted in unprecedented growth for Stream Energy and Ignite, and has created an important outlet where individuals can earn income.

The combination of Stream Energy's systems with the Ignite marketing opportunity has propelled the company towards $1 billion in annual sales after four years in business.

In 2007, Stream Energy received a Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce Momentum Award as a result of the company's rapid expansion and dynamic employee growth. Stream Energy has also twice been named a finalist for the Platts Global Energy Rising Star Award (2007 and 2008), and Stream Energy was an award recipient from the Southern Methodist University Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship for 2008.

In conjunction with the company's growth, Stream Energy made a sizeable expansion of its corporate headquarters at the INFOMART in Dallas. The expansion allowed Stream Energy to become the first tenant in the history of INFOMART to have a sign on the front of the building.
